Ecclesiastical Positive Law is the law that emanates from the legislative power of the Catholic Church in order to govern its members in accordance with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.[1]
Examples of Ecclesiastical Positive Law are fasting during the liturgical season of Lent and religious (monks, nuns, etc.) being required to have permission by their superiors to publish a book.[1][2]
The principal laws of the Catholic Church are found in its Code of Canon Law, promulgated in 1983.[1]
